Housing + Habitat Resource Fairs
As part of the Wildlands Urban Interface (WUI) Research for Resilience: Addressing California’s Climate, Conservation & Housing Crises initiative, the Center for Critical Urban and Environmental Studies, together with the Santa Cruz County Long Term Recovery Group and other aligned community grassroots and government organizations, will host Housing and Habitat Community Resource Fairs in WUI designated areas across Santa Cruz county – where the fringes of development reach natural areas.
Our focus is on building community, understanding needs, and expanding resources on the north coast of Santa Cruz County, which is also in the heart of our Wildlands Urban Interface (“WUI”) —where urban development connects with natural areas, and where residents are more likely to be impacted by fire, storms, and floods.
Fairs will accompany our surveying in fire and flood impacted areas to better understand the communities moving to and staying in these areas, including their housing history, affordability pressures, and needs in terms of disaster preparedness, mitigation and recovery.
To get involved in the community fairs, please contact Dr. Miriam Greenberg (miriam@ucsc.edu).
