Working Group

Formed in 2021 by faculty and graduate students in the Department of Sociology, the Critical Urban Studies (CUS) working group is an interdisciplinary forum that brings together researchers from the social sciences and humanities at UC Santa Cruz who are interested in advancing critical urban scholarship, broadly defined. CUS provides a platform to discuss groundbreaking urban studies scholarship, to engage in contemporary debates in urban theory, and to foster collaboration across disciplines. Activities include an ongoing reading group, paper workshops, and public talks by UCSC faculty, graduate students, and invited guests.
