
Employment: WUI Jr. Specialist
Professor Miriam Greenberg in the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Project Junior Specialist position.
Faculty at the UCSC Center for Critical Urban and Environmental Studies are completing a community-based research project addressing the drivers, demographics, and socio-environmental dynamics of the growth of the WUI – areas of human settlement that are intermixed with or alongside natural areas. We have conducted extensive surveys, interviews and spatial statistics, as well as preliminary cleaning and coding and cleaning of data. We now seek someone skilled in a mix of methods to assist in the analysis, writing up, and presentation of our results.
Job Duties
- 10% final data cleaning and/or coding
- 30% analysis of quantitative and/or qualitative data and preparation of data visualizations
- 40% writing up results in final research briefs and reports
- 10% weekly meetings to discuss process
- 10% assisting with public events to share our findings
The position will require the selected candidate to consistently demonstrate strong organization, time management, and communication skills.
Applicants with any of the following areas of experience or interest are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Interest in housing and environmental justice issues on the Central Coast.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English.
- Art, graphic design, data visualization, film and media, and/or creative writing (for help with public presentations).
